COHA PLANS NATIONAL SESSION FOR RESEARCH PRIORITIES

The Canadian Ornamental Horticulture Alliance announced today that a national research priorities strategy session will be held in Toronto on June 6, 2017.

The session will enable invited representatives from Canada's ornamental horticulture sector and invited researchers to work together on identifying and prioritizing key research needs to contribute to the sector's future growth and competitiveness.

“This session will set the course for the next AgriScience cluster for the ornamentals sector," stated Rita Weerdenburg, Research Coordinator for the Canadian Nursery Landscape Association. “June 6 will be a crucial think tank kind of meeting to make sure that we have right focus and have addressed current gaps," added Guillaume Grégoire, Scientific and Technical Analyst for the Fédération Interdisciplinaire de l'horticulture Ornementale du Québec. “The thought intersection between industry representatives and researchers generates leading-edge solutions for the sector's needs going forward," stated Jamie Aalbers, Research Director for Flowers Canada Growers. Aalbers noted how important it is for the sector to have consensus around its most important priorities in order to bring about the best outcomes and collaborations.

COHA received funding from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada under its current cluster program to organize the priorities setting session. “The Department's support made the difference in our being able to hold this session – no doubt about that," noted COHA's current President, Michael Murray. “We appreciate the support for our sector."
