"IPM - Beyond the Basics"



 This course is a 7-week night course (one evening / week) to upgrade the knowledge of commercial flower and / or vegetable growers. The course will be given during the evenings over a period of about 2 months.  Time and place: Tuesday evenings: 19:00 HR until 21:30 HR. Location is Rittenhouse Hall at the Vineland campus (Advisory Building). Starting date: Sept 8, 2009, and the final date of: Oct. 27, 2009, for a total of 7 evenings. There may be an 8th evening, if necessary.


            This course is designed with the objective of upgrading persons currently working or employed in the greenhouse industry. Interested people should have at least one year's experience in greenhouse production. Topics include: An overview of pests and their control in a greenhouse; discussion of groups of pests such as insects, mites and diseases, viruses etc.; the mode of action of pesticides, resistance, groups of pesticides, and contact versus systemic. This is followed by a discussion of various control options such as IPM, environmental control, biocontrol, coexistence of pesticides and biocontrol agents.
