Welcome to the Ontario section of Flowers Canada Growers (FCG). Ontario greenhouse growers are known for their leading edge technology that is utilized to produce hundreds of varieties of floriculture products for consumers throughout North America.

There are almost 250 floriculture greenhouse growers in Ontario whose operations have over 20,000 sq ft of greenhouse space. Growers in excess of 20,000 sq ft, are mandated by the Ontario Farm Products Marketing Act to be members of Flowers Canada (Ontario) Inc. (FCO) In Ontario. Flowers Canada Growers works in conjunction with Flowers Canada (Ontario) Inc., a not for profit organization to care for the provincial and federal issues facing Ontario floriculture producers.
The Ontario floriculture industry:

  • 784.8 million in sales each year
  • 2.88 billion estimated total economic impact

pickOntario was recently featured in the St. Catharine's newspaper "The Standard". This article highlighted the main goals of pickOntario and the increasing knowledge of locally grown but flowers and potted plants.


MOE Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reporting Regulation (O.Reg 452/09) 3/22/2010

Ontario MOE held a consultation meeting in London on March 1, 2010 to provide guidelines on greenhouse gas emissions reporting which took effect on January 1, 2010.  The regulation requires that all emitters who generate a greenhouse gas, as defined in the regulation, are required to report through on-line registration.  The regulation requires that all facilities that are emitting 25,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent or more, per year, must report.


FCO Announces New Executive Director 3/8/2010

It is with mixed thoughts and emotions that Andrew Kuyvenhoven, President of the Flowers Canada (Ontario) Inc. Board of Directors, wishes to announce to the membership a change in the Executive Director of your industry association.  Dr. Irwin Smith who has tirelessly served the association since February 1999 will be retiring mid-April.


Environmental Farm Plan (EFP) Funding Available 1/15/2010

A new round of EFP funding is starting on January 15th, 2010.  Growers can contact their local EFP representative for more application instructions.
