Flowers Canada Growers speaks with one voice on issues that directly affect growers. Many benefits and cost savings have been realized by our growers:
- Helped the industry in managing outbreak of quarantine pest and negotiated government compensation to affected producers.
- Ensured equitable government payment of CAIS and other farm pay-outs to floriculture growers.
- Generated and managed $3.1 Million (last year) in research dollars for the industry with direction of our grower research committee.
- Communicated with government to ensure floriculture access to new Agri-Invest suite of programs.
- Gained approval for over 54 new minor use pesticides enabling growers to better control pests.
- Instigated numerous Business Risk Management tools to assist growers with decision making.
- Negotiating access to the Advance Payments Program which will effectively lower cost of operating for growers.
Most recently Flowers Canada Growers responded to requests from Agriculture Canada on the effects of tariff removal on our industry, held meetings with the CFIA discussing plant health and quarantine issues, represented grower interests at the priority setting workshop for Minor Use Pesticides, held educational seminars on Border Issues, Pesticides, Greenhouse Environment, and Research. FCG advocates for growers at all levels of government to positively influence policy and industry changes for the benefit of both our producers and the Canadian economy.
