Welcome to Flowers Canada Growers (FCG)!  Our organization represents floriculture greenhouse growers and industry partners across Canada. We are a grower community that proactively addresses common challenges to our industry.  Our mandate is to identify these challenges, clearly communicate them to government and whenever possible implement solutions that benefit both our industry and the Canadian economy.  Canadian Floriculture accounts for:
  • $1.44 billion in farm gate sales
  • $5.29 billion estimated total economic impact
  • 43,245 full and part-time employees in the greenhouse sector

NEW! Pest Management Research Conference 8/26/2010
The 2010, 9th Annual, Flowers Canada Pest Management Research Conference will be held August 26th and 27th at the Sheraton Fallsview, Niagara Falls, Ontario.  All members of Flowers Canada Growers are invited to register to attend.

Advanced Payment Program Now Available 6/25/2010

Flowers Canada (Ontario) Inc., on behalf of Flowers Canada Growers, is very pleased to announce the continued agreement with the Farm Finance Division of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada for Ontario floriculture producers to access the Advance Payment Program (APP).  AG Canada has now approved the rates and product groups for the second six month period ( June  to November 30, 2010) for the Advance Payment Program. The application forms will be posted on their website (www.accfarmersfinancial.ca)


FCG Announces New Executive Director March 2010 3/8/2010

It is with mixed thoughts and emotions that Andrew Kuyvenhoven, President of the Flowers Canada Growers Board of Directors, wishes to announce to the membership a change in the Executive Director of your industry association.  Dr. Irwin Smith who has tirelessly served the association since February 1999 will be retiring mid-April.


Environmental Farm Plan (EFP) Funding Available 1/15/2010

A new round of EFP funding is starting on January 15th, 2010.  Growers can contact their local EFP representative for more application instructions.   Full details can be viewed on the Ontario page


Ethrel/Florel (ethephon) approved for use on greenhouse potted ornamentals 7/15/2010

Ethrel/Florel was approved for registration on Greenhouse Potted Ornamentals.


Fertilizer Disposal Fee Exemption Granted for Agricultural Uses 6/11/2010

Ontario agricultural producers have been granted an exemption from a proposed disposal fee on fertilizers sold in containers less than 30kg or L. 


Pristine Now Registered for Greenhouse Ornamental Use on Powdery Mildew 4/22/2010

Today the PMRA approved the label expansion of Pristine (boscalid & pyraclostrobin) to include Powdery Mildew in  greenhosues.


The 2010 Pest Management Center Priority Setting Meeting Update 3/26/2010

The 2010 Pest Management Center Priority Setting Meeting was a huge success for Flower growers in Canada.  We effectively won 3 new greenhouse priorities, 1 outdoor ornamental priority and are preparing to work with PMC & IR-4 to solve another longstanding pest problem.


Grower Input on Pest Management Practices Requested 3/18/2010

Flowers Canada Growers is conducting a survey, with the assistance of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's Pest Management Centre, to provide a snapshot of current pest management practices in the commercial floriculture industry and to develop a comprehensive national strategy to reduce the risks to human health and th environment from traditinal pesticides.  The Federal Risk Reduction Program aims to enhance the environmental stewardship of producers and make it easier for them to compete in domestic and internatinal markets with safer floriculture products.


Previcur (propamocarb HCL) label expanded 2/26/2010

Previcur (propamocarb HCL) now has an expanded label to include Pythium and Phytophthora use in out door and greenhouse ornamentals.

Dimilin 25% WP Approved for Import Under GROU 2/19/2010

The product Dimilin 25% WP (diflubenzuron) has recently been approved for grower import from the USA under the Grower Own Use (GROU) import program.

The product B-Nine (daminozide) has recently been approved for grower import from the USA under the Grower Own Use (GROU) import program.

Flowers Canada Growers speaks with one voice on issues that directly affect growers.  Many benefits and cost savings have been realized by our growers:

  • Helped the industry in managing outbreak of quarantine pest and negotiated government compensation to affected producers.
  • Ensured equitable government payment of CAIS and other farm pay-outs to floriculture growers.
  • Generated and managed $3.1 Million (last year) in research dollars for the industry with direction of our grower research committee.
  • Communicated with government to ensure floriculture access to new Agri-Invest suite of programs.
